Conquering the Canon

“Conquering the Canon” is the autobiographical solo show written and performed by Michael Hagins, telling the true story of how he accomplished what few theater artists in history have done: actively participating in every single play in William Shakespeare's complete 38-play canon.

Directed by Melissa Meli, with technical direction and stage management by Adam Sherwin, the show blends classical drama and modern autobiography in Hagins' signature Shakespeare style. The narrative follows Hagins through a verse-infused retrospective of his life's work, introducing the real-world characters, mentors, and rivals who guided him toward this milestone.

The show has won Best Solo Show at New York Shakespeare (2025) and Best Show at The ONE Festival (2026).
