Festivals
FRIGID is proud to produce many festivals throughout the year, featuring diverse work from diverse artists. Our festivals provide platforms for new and emerging artists as well as old friends and bring together artists who may otherwise never have met. Friendships are formed and memories made at each of our festivals.
New York City Fringe
New York City Fringe (formally the FRIGID Fringe Festival) is our flagship festival! It is an open, lottery-based theater festival that gives artists an opportunity to let their ingenuity thrive in an environment that values freedom of expression and artistic determination. In true support of our Indie Theater Community, 100% of box office proceeds go directly to the artists whose work is being presented. Fringe runs in April.
The Fire This Time Festival
The African American experience is not represented solely by one voice or one style. FRIGID New York and The Fire This Time Festival provide a platform for talented early-career playwrights of African and African American descent to explore challenging new directions for 21st century theater. EstroGenius
The EstroGenius Festival is the longest running festival celebrating the work of women and gender non-conforming artists in NYC. Begun in Manhattan Theatre Source in 2000 as a short-play festival, the festival has launched and supported hundreds of artists in its 19 years and continues through the generous support of FRIGID New York.
In concurrence with the inclusive values the festival was founded on, this executive team focuses on art generated, written, directed, choreographed, composed and performed by artists who expand the definition of a women’s festival. The producers strive to create a full, empowering, festival dedicated to a community that hears, sees and celebrates women, gender non-conforming and non-binary artists in all of their dynamic diversity. Queerly
Now in its tenth year, Queerly is our annual celebration of all things artistic and LGBTQIA2S+, curated by Resident Artistic Director Jimmy Lovett. Queerly strives for diversity on and off stage, seeking out queer teams and artists of all kinds as well as a wide range of shows and performances. Our goal is to provide a space for queer artists who’ve rarely or never seen their identities portrayed on stage to be able to represent themselves and tell their stories, their way. Queerly runs in June. Learn more.
Little Shakespeare
The Little Shakespeare Festival is stepping up from last year’s solo shows to shows featuring casts of five people or fewer. Catch classics as well as Bard-inspired performances. Curated by Conor Mullen of As You Will. Learn more.
